CUAG is proud to be the community partner for this Sunday’s event Second That Emotion: An Artist Talk with Michael Robinson and Jesse McLean at SAW Video. The artist talk and screening is part of SAW Video’s Red/White/Blue: New American Film and Video screening series.
This special artist talk with visiting filmmakers Michael Robinson and Jesse McLean focuses on the use of appropriated imagery or ‘found footage’ in the construction of social and political commentary. Both artists’ exceptional bodies of work explore the ways in which recycled images and sounds from popular culture can be imbued with new meanings that form a commentary on the mediated world we live in. Robinson and McLean will also discuss how they not only make use of the content of the images and sounds they reappropriate but also take advantage of the format or medium, talking about the different psychological impacts of 16mm film, VHS, broadcast TV and high-definition digital pictures. The artist talk will open with a special screening of two videos not featured in either of Robinson or McLean’s main spotlight presentations on July 13th and 14th, All Through the Night and The Eternal Quarter Inch.
